Introduction to US ETL Certification
ETL is North America's most dynamic safety certification mark, the history can be traced back to 1896 Thomas Edison to create the electrical test laboratory, in North America has a wide range of visibility and recognition. ETL logo is the world's leading quality and safety agencies Intertek Intertek Group's exclusive logo, access to ETL logo products to meet North America's mandatory standards, can successfully enter the North American market.
Any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product with an ETL inspection mark indicates that it has been tested to comply with the relevant industry standards. Each industry has a different test standard, so the requirements for specific products must be consulted to the professionals. The ETL inspection mark is widely used in cable products, indicating the adoption of the test.
In most parts of the United States, the approval of electrical products is mandatory. ETL refers to ETL Testing Laboratories Inc. (ETL Testing Laboratories Inc.). The list of products of ETL is recognized by "Authorities Having Jurisdiction" and may be considered "approved".
ETL certification mark
ETL certification factory inspection
ETL in the certification before the need for factory inspection, after each quarter will be carried out from time to time to follow up the factory inspection, the cost of the factory inspection fees in addition to quarterly payment certificate fees.
If necessary, the inspector can witness the product for re-testing or sampling after testing in the laboratory.
A licensee must sign a legal contract (service agreement) with ETL, which clearly sets out the manufacturer's responsibility and the conditions for the use of the ETL and the ETL mark.
ETL certification application documents
There are two ways to get ETL certificates until 2013. One is through the CB test report and can be applied directly. The required documents are as follows:
Application form
2.CB test certificate copy (direct application does not need);
3.CB test report copy (direct application does not need);
4. sample
5. Other relevant test results and product data, such as: product manual, photo, component list and so on.
(Such as through the CB report to go, you need to be differentiated test)
ETL certification test items
1), leakage current test: the model used for leakage current test before the test did not carry out other tests
2), the normal temperature rise: test test method: thermocouple: standard requirements 24-30AWG thermocouple, (currently used in the laboratory 30AWG)
3), tide after the leakage current test: General test conditions: T = 32 +/- 2 ° C, RH = 88 ± 2%. Duration: 48 hours after the completion of doing leakage current test test conditions T = 20 ~ 30 ° C, RH = 93 +/- 3%
4), withstand voltage test: generally unparalleled insulation and grounding products required products: 1000 V / 1 minute (equipment target voltage climb time set to 5 seconds, set the cut-off current of 8.3 mA, and then keep the target voltage for 1 minute)
Differences between ETL certification and UL certification
Both UL and ETL represent products that pass the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) test and meet the appropriate safety standards. So the real difference is service. As an ETL customer, you can enjoy tailored testing, inspection and certification services, fast operating cycles and flexible working methods. We are working with customers to create a more cohesive way of working so that your product can enter the market faster, smoother and more efficiently.
ETL certification and UL certification with the same North American market access effect, but the cost of ETL certification is much lower than the UL certification, generally only half of UL certification, and, ETL certified product testing can be reported through the CB test, you can Save a lot of testing costs.
ETL certification time is also shorter than the UL certification, special circumstances, ETL can first certification, and then the factory review, for your product exports to save valuable time.
